Maton Guitars & City of Melbourne
A guitar made to save Melbourne’s live music
To support Melbourne’s live music scene when it needed it most, we created a one-of-a-kind guitar from the wood of four of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues. Manufactured by Maton, the guitar was crafted with wood from Cherry Bar, The Tote, The Corner Hotel and The Espy.
We also made a feature-length documentary on Channel 9 that revealed the fight the community had on its hands to keep live music alive, as told by the artists and figures leading the way.
Along the way, we encouraged donations and most importantly, people to get out there and support live music. Today the guitar lives at the Australian Music Vault.
This was one of those ideas where I insisted on helping however I could. I wrote grant applications to secure funding, reached out to local artists for their support and managed our social channels. I was also the first person to play the guitar. I butchered my way through Highway To Hell in the office.
